Why are some Nostalgic Desserts layered?

To truly capture a flavor — let's say Ice Cream Truck Strawberry Shortcake — you can't just have a base nut butter with a bunch of different flavorings mixed in, then throw toppings on the base and expect it to taste authentic. You won't get the true taste of the flavor you're trying to replicate. Sure, it's easier to do it that way, but creating perfection isn't easy — which is why we truly mimic the flavor by using the layers.
